Sooo I'm kinda stumped atm trying to think of some cool new system to customize your mage for our current project mischief mages. So if anyone can think of anything interesting then chuck a comment onto the end of this blog to help us out. Mention any systems that you've seen that are interesting or anything you create urself, I just need some stimulation.
BTW im camping at uni all week cause my floors at home are getting sanded and polished so i dont have a computer. So im friggen bored!!!
Things to do at uni:
Play lol on uni comps! - doesn't work in library
Finish BLE assignment! - cant be motivated
Facebook! - can only entertain me for like 5min
youtube! - already used like 80% of my monthly DL limit
GDD for mischief Mages!- currently working on it but would rather be doing art for it but library comps dont have blender or photoshop

I'm almost better. I only need to nap now to get a few hours awake. Unfortunately though, theres now a huge pile of uni stuff I was supposed to get done that I haven't and will take quite a while to get through. Not sure when I can start up MM again and roll some more features.
Seems like this blog won't have to be done in 12 parts like the last one (thats an exaggeration, I think it was only 4 or 5 with a few hours of sleep in between).
Going to try go to uni tomorrow anyway, I figure if I sleep on the bus then should be fine to stay reasonably alert in class. Hopefully I will finally get rid of smelling like a sick person though in the morning (almost gone today but not quite).
Today was interesting, since I couldn't get enough done for capstone in time got everyone to help out. Seems to be going a lot better, not really enough done but yeah.
Sam and I then spent most of the afternoon reviewing engines/frameworks. As we are both doing Adv Software I've been arguing (more, pushing an agenda?) that we can just roll our own tech probably using DirectX and Box2D (we are doing a physics based game). Their point of view is that an engine (e.g. Unity, UDK or XNA [+others]) would benefit us greatly as we would have to do a lot less work. I see their point and even understand the arguments behind it very well so to make sure that we are definitely arguing the right point of view, we decided we'd just go along with the review system which isn't really specified how we should do it so we just came up with a list of what we need, what we would want and what support we might need for models and animation and so on. Right now Unity and UDK are nightmarishly hard for us to use. They seem very well tailored for Artists or Designers but I'm really struggling to use the toolsets and things, with more playing we'll crack it no doubt but feels very different to be scripting again rather than compiling and working in an IDE in general. Its almost like building websites again (something I don't really love since getting lower on the hardware; non-sexually) so I'll talk to Sam about it more tomorrow but I think his feelings are the same. However a proper scenegraph and resource manager (the one we're using for MM is really specialized for MM- it doesn't do anything properly yet =P and ones we wrote for assignments don't do proper back to front rendering based on materials, or render with shaders properly either) would be useful so I think I might tomorrow look properly through using XNA or one of the other frameworks. XNA has a flavor of Box2D as well through the Farseer Physics Engine which seems pretty solid. But will have to roll some simple tools for building levels potentially.
Anyway, I should really be working on <something> other than blogging, Have fun- Paul.
PS. Happy Birthday Nathan.

For the first time in ages I actually have a lot to blog about but will probably keep it short in case I pass out midway or something.
First off, I've been amazingly sick the last couple of days. Today I finally managed to crawl out of bed for a couple of hours and trying to eat now. Hopefully I'll recover pretty fast so as to not fall too far behind. :)
Mischief Mages for my part at least has been paused since I got sick. Ryan and I had a development day last weds/thurs night was pretty solid. Nathan was there too but was distracted a lot. Took us a while to get his mac working as well, so was a lot of Ryan working and me setting the mac up. I finally got to play Fruit Ninja and Ninjump as well. Which I didn't get a chance at the new years catchup party since Mark flattened the batteries in the iPad before I got a chance.
Randall Munroe's Radiation Comparison (XKCD)
Pretty sure I did that wrong, but I'll just edit if it is :)
Feeling pretty weak so going to go rest a bit, might edit later to add more if I feel up to it.
Have Fun, Paul.

So I have found that there is a correlation between me getting hammered and me writing stupid shit on the internet with the only exception being last night because I don't have a computer and a touch screen ipad is way beyond my ability as a drunk. To be honest I don't understand why but after spending $120 on $4 drinks and getting home at 3am I always have this urge to fire up my laptop and tell every other gamer out there how much better I am at gaming than they are or brag about how many drinks I can hold, although now that I think about it being $120 down for the sake of a crazy night might not be a good thing for me or my liver. Anywho this was just an epiphany (I couldn't spell this word even if i was 100% sober) [fixed it - Daniel.] I had this morning 3 hours after crawling into bed. Goodnights.
And yeah when I get rid of my hangover by about midday I'm going to probs do some more modelling for mischief mages. Night

In one word... (and this took me some time to think of the right word) it would be that the past couple of days were Rough
I say that because while in my current state I am frazzled or stressed or disquiet or even in a state of anxiety. This is because of quite a lot of separate factors focussed in like a gank on an overextended lane (seriously, don't over extend your lanes, why would you push bot by yourself to the inner turret with 4 mia. when you die it's because of your failself D: -- referring to LoL).
In terms of Mischief Mages (saying this first cause rest of post is whiney ew disgusting), I've done a little work on the map, Pauls shown me what it'd look like in game, looks kind of cool but needs alot of work. He's also gotten the shader in (zomg, yes, thats amazing!) so now the models don't look like blobs and are now kind of cool :D
In terms of drawing... I drew a picture on paper the other day for a friend, I used colour pencils for the first time in years, so that was fun. For comics... Shift is the only atm that seems to be picking up cause its so easy to draw. My other ones are still in progress though :).
oh! and ryans laptop died. lololol, he sent it away to get fixed but he won't have it for lik 3 weeks.
That's all the important stuff so onto stupid part of blog, the rambling.
After my first week back at uni I was mostly fine and prepared to get back into the student life with work on the weekend.
But the last few days have been some of the most rough
I've had in recent memory. I guess skipping some... lead up drama (sad stupid... but surprisingly deep drama, lol) it's mainly this: I worked 10 hours on friday night, 9 hours on saturday night and 8 hours on sunday night (not unusual at all). I slept when I got home, but sleep was quite... broken. None more so than this morning.
crappy crappy graphs D:
With recent renovations done to our home. The weeks where the tilers came in and worked from the morning to the afternoon (the time where I would be asleep, some days I'd get home from work and they'd already started) were a little harsh, I wouldnt sleep as much as I'd like but whatever, I got some.
Except this morning was the day that the bathroom was getting ripped apart to be slapped back together with newer, BETTER parts and all that jazz.
Tiles had to be ripped off the walls and the ground, the whole shower cubicle ripped off and chucked out and the toilet gone as well, everything but the sink (this is true, because the new sink was already put in a week earlier).
The bathroom happens to be right next to my bedroom.
so when I got home this morning after working 3 consecutive days with not so much sleep or real food and nothing to do for the remainder of the day but sleep and relaxing and sorting my head... I had continually interrupted by power tools being used in the room over.
I guess the bright side is I got my bag delivered and my shiny new laptop will be in next week. Which brings me to my next point, I feel disgusted after saving all my money and then buying a shitload all at once. It didn't sit well with me having to transfer my monies... but I kind of need these things for uni and such. so... well, yay for me :D (real Yay, cause I have new stuff :D)
So this pretty much sums up my weekend, I spent a ridiculous ammount of money, got no sleep, didn't eat real food (work food isn't real food D:) it was rough
. I was so mentally-- just mental actually that I began to reevaluate some of my ideologies. After a while this would become a little entertaining arguing with myself (I went just a little crazy).
I have this whole rant now about 'nice guys' (faux nice guys actually) but I'll save that new crazy for later.
I had to redraw this cause of a blackout... not happy D:
I guess... I just didn't expect that I could get this... distraught so quickly over these last few days. I'm normally ready to lol at anything but these past days... just wore on me so hard (that's what she said!) that I feel about ready to snap. I know I need sleep, but I figure I can blog this while I can, cause what other opportunity will I have to blog about something as long. (that being said, my next few blogs will probs be veeeery short, cause of stuff to work on and mostly just updates). I'll probably have a few blogs on stuff I bought more in depth later.
I still have the rest of my birthday rum from my 18th (woooow... that was so long ago) sitting on my desk... and I'm not a big drinker but I've been so tempted to down it (and then die, cause that's what happens when I drink).
I really want to leave off on a happy note... cause bleak is dusgusting, I'm sure that if i try to reread this I'll gag just looking at my words. Something like... oh, I get off probation for my job at the casino next week, that's fun. I'll get a payrise and everything :D
Aidan will start in like 2 weeks as well, he's still in training but from what he's been saying he's having fun (yey)
So in conclusion (lolololol, influence of school), it can be seen that this report shows that the main focus of this weekend was a little sad a few parts harsh and a couple parts lonely (who works their entire weekend anyway, pffft). In total... it was rough
Edit: I know what i can leave off with! This song :D I've been listening to it aaaaalll the time (as well as Bruno Mars - Grenade
, but people know that song (omg... so many tries to get that url to work wtf hahaha)
This is 'Start Again' by Sam Tsui

Took me 3 times to remember how to upload image D:
So I haven't blogged in a while. This won't be too epic of length either. Hopefully I'll be able to do a bi-weekly blog once I get back into the swing of uni. Hopefully I'll be able to start uploading some comics as well. Look forward to it (not too forward, you might get disappointed D:).
I haven't actually been able to work on MM as much as I'd like. And the stuff that I've been able to work on aren't available to view. So in the current build I've done a total of... maybe 0.5% of the work?
That's about all. I've been quite busy these last few weeks with work and unnecessary pool playing. I've actually been drawing more as well, which I like.
...That's about it really. Maybe upload a picture tomorrow or something.

Taking a break from development this morning to work on publicity a bit. The first video of the game went up last night. Its very early and we openly admit there is very very little done in the 3D part of the game. Anyway, you can watch the video here;
Mischief Mages Pre-Alpha testing. [YouTube
Today I plan to implement a few more actions and hopefully also parts of the HUD, this will bring the game much closer to alpha.
As soon as we can get our hands on a server we will be extending our test group as well, its best that you keep an eye on the Facebook page for when that happens as don't really post here as much as we do on there. The facebook page is; Mischief Mages
, Don't forget to "Like!" it so you get updates!
Time for me to get back to work now. :)
Have Fun All, stay tuned for more updates! -Paul.

I know its been awhile since I last blogged, but i've never really been much of a blogger anyways. Just informing everyone that our current game project "MISCHIEF MAGES" is currently underway. I've spent some time over the last couple weeks working on some of the art for mischief mages trying to get as much ready for Paul by the time hes finished doing his code monkey business so that i can keep him occupied.
We've done a fair bit of design over the last couple weeks, just bouncing ideas off of one another and we've come up with a few ideas to make this an interesting game.
Programming wise I believe the patcher is almost 100% complete and Paul is head down working on the interaction between the server and lobby so that we can have a semi-playable game up and running shortly.
On the Art Front, we haven't done so much. I have done 90% of the art for the patcher and have also made some of the Lobby art take a squiz and tell me what you think so far.
'Lobby Progress' by HarkonXI worked on this for a few hours today. It will be the start of lobby for players when you login to mischief mages.
also the first mage model has been done and current has a walking and attacking animation.

Just to let everyone know that I have fixed up timezone settings and am just waiting for Paul to upload it. When he does I'm pretty sure that everyone's timezones will revert to GMT+0 time. To fix this just go to "My Account" and update you're local timezone (most likely GMT+10).

On the Mischief Mages front things are going somewhat poorly. We spent Weds/Thurs night at Nathans working on it. Well not really, since Aidan and Mark were very distracting so was really only Ryan working on it properly. He got a Mage v2 done and rigged. Nathan then did an early texture. I sent the Mesh and Texture off to Ying to animate, so that went well. Currently (last I heard) she has done a walk cycle and an instant attack cycle.
On my end however things are less obviously productive. I started weds with a very basic idea of how to get the servers to communicate. As I was working on it I came across many many issues (only some of which I have fully resolved). As this is my first attempt at a real server (I have done simple relay servers and the like before) I'm stabbing in the dark quite a lot. To solve some issues I've split up the "server" into multiple small projects. A login server, a lobby server and a game server. Pretty much- All clients are pointed to the login server where they pass in thier LOR account details and then from that the login server gives a list of lobbies available (Think Worlds/Realms in an MMO (depending on the MMO)) We'll probably give geographic or language based lobbies. When you join a lobby you can join a matchmaking pool or create a custom game. There will be other options as well but we'll figure those out later. This is also where you will be changing your equipment and selecting spells before a match. After you have been assigned a match the lobby server asks one of potentially many game servers assigned to that lobby and tells it to prepare for a game. The lobby will tell all players what game to join on what server and the game will begin once everyone has loaded.
Thats the plan anyway. Right now you can login and select a lobby server, once on the lobby you can use lobby chat (which won't be in the final version) and tell the lobby to assign a game. But the lobby server doesn't know what to do with it so its stopped there. The game server does know how to create a game and verify people can join it but it doesn't know how to assign itself to a lobby or what to do when a lobby contacts it asking to do stuff. So hopefully I can sort this out soon and we can play. At the moment there is also 8 security flaws I can see quite clearly so I need to work on that as well before too long. Also I think all servers will crash if someone sends bogus data or if it gets ghost packets. So might be an interesting week or two while I sort these (probably) simple issues out (note; just because they are simple doens't mean I have any idea what I'm doing =P).
When it comes to the site there have been some nice changes made over the last few days. Ben (a friend from university; known on LOR as Nomad) has been completing jobs that I hadn't been bothered to fix on the site. These include Updating Profiles and the Forgot Password page. So both of those now work well. I think he is working on the avatar system in the near future. I also did updates but mostly aesthetic- the links on the Recent box now work and the database is harder to screw up when i change site configuration stuff (which shouldn't happen but does). I have to compile a list of jobs I need doing so others can help out as well but it will require a solid 8 or so hours of copying stuff over and fixing the nomenclature changes I made between LORv7b and LORv7c so that they can work on those projects. God help them if they suggest using third party components. :P
I also played more LOTRO last night and finally got some levelling in. Early in the night I figured out fast travel (after completing the tutorial region which never explained it) and ran into this:
'Nazgul' by OsiJrI finally made it to Bree (after figuring out how to use fast travel) and after questing a bit ran into Strider (aka. Aragorn) at the Prancing Pony Inn. He gives an instance to go take out a bad guy... This is right at the end of the quest. You and your NPC ally run into the Nazgul since the stupid elf and Strider ran off and left you to take out the camp by yourselves.
Thankfully you don't have to fight them so it worked out alright.
Have Fun, Paul.
